Tolka Rovers 96   102 Big Al’s Notre Dame
Paddy Boylan 34 32 Anthony Jenkins
    27 Brandon Hughes
    23 Lennie McMillan
Tolka were without coach Owen McKeown for this game due to personal reasons. Maeve Coleman, Tolka Rovers’ Women’s League coach had control for the game.

Tolka gave Big Al’s a run for their money for most of the game, but then allowed the visitors to build up a lead in the third quarter.

Big Al's looked to be home and dry, up 13pts with 70 seconds remaining, then the on fire Paddy Boylan hit yet another 3pter to cut it to 10pts, Hughes missed 2/2 at the line, then Tolka hit their second three to make it a 7pt game. Ciaran McEvilly made 1/2 at the line to put it back to 8pts, then Tolka hit their 3rd successive three-pointer to make it a 5pt game with 20 seconds remaining. Big Al's held on for a nervous win in the end.

Hibernian UCD Marian 96(51)   93(44) Tyrone Towers
Kevin Ward 27 28 Jermaine Turner
Pat Glover 20 28 Charles Mason
Chris Akers 17 15 Jose Supervia
Pat Glover was the star as the home side narrowly over powered a strong Tyrone Towers challenge at UCD on Saturday night. Marian were without Charles and badly missed him under the boards as the American duo Turner and Mason shone for the visitors. It was tight for much of the last quarter, and it was only when Charles Mason fouled out for Towers with 4 minutes to go that Marian pulled away for the valuable victory.

O’Hagan Saints 86(52)   100(46) Esat Business Demons
Pierre Shuttlesworth 30 31 Juan Wiley
Donald Edge 25 25 Toby Carberry
Dave Donnelly 10 16 Brian Clernon
O’Hagan Saints fell to their third successive defeat losing 86-100 to Esat Business Demons at the National Basketball Arena. Stephen McGuirk played, but was badly hampered by his whiplash injury and kept to just 7pts in the game. Wiley and Carberry enjoyed excellent second halves for Demons, but it was former Killarney star Brian Clernon who sealed victory for Demons hitting 11pts in the 4th quarter, including three three-pointers.
The game was pretty much basket for basket for the duration of the game, Demons sealing it by a 1pt at the end of the first quarter. Dave Donnelly had a strong first quarter for Saints, hitting 7tps, and keeping Carberry quiet with some great defence.

Demons pulled away into a 5pt lead early in the second quarter, thanks to a Carberry Alley OOP! Saints then enjoyed a strong period with Shuttlesworth and Edge working well under the boards, putting their side back in front again, 36-34, with just under five minutes to go.

Demons then had their worst period of the game. Nothing would go in for either Wiley or Carberry, and Demons gave repeated turnovers, allowing Saints to build up a 48-40 lead with 1.50 to go in the half. Then it was Saints turn to give away some awful turnovers, allowing Demons to crawl their way back into the game. Gareth Winders missed a 3pter at one end, and Dave Donnelly fouled Wiley on the break, he made the basket and the bonus to cut Saints lead to 3pts with 10 seconds remaining. Donald Edge scored on the buzzer to put Saints 5pts in front at the break, 51-46.

The third quarter was pretty even, both sides giving away some unnecessary turnovers. McGuirk’s involvement was limited in the second half, and Karl Donnelly, who was not supposed to be involved due to his GAA commitments with Na Fianna, came on. Demons shading the half, but Saints retaining the lead, they went into the 4th quarter 67-65 in front.

The fourth quarter was all Demons, with Brian Clernon on fire for the Cork side. He hit two three-pointers to put Demons 81 –74 in front with 5 minutes remaining.

Keenan hit a big three to keep Saints in touch, but Clernon hit 5 unanswered points to put Demons 86-79 in front with 3.30 on the clock. Saints were up against it now, and throwing up three-point attempts, but nothing would drop for them, and with Demons on fire, it was game over. Toby Carberry slam-dunked home his fourth big dunk of the game, Demons running out 100-86 winners in the end.

Gleneagle Killarney 71(30)   90(37) THORN Killester
Maurice Carter 32 27 John Leahy
William Maysfield 26 18 Eric Jackson
Shane Horgan 7 11 John Quigley
Despite trailing for almost the entire first half, THORN Killester eventually got on top and ran out easy winners. The home side started well and with American’s Maurice Carter and William Maysfield impressing along with David Griffin, Gleneagle led 12-9 after five minutes and were 19-11 in front aver seven minutes gone. Baskets from Damien Sealy brought Killester back, but Gleneagle still led 21-17 at the end of the quarter.

The home side still led for most of the second quarter, but Killester finished strong through John Quigley and Eric Jackson and had run up a 7pt lead at the break.

Gleneagle only managed to score nine points in the 2nd quarter, and it eventually proved their downfall. Killester took over midway through the third quarter after enjoyed a 44-43 advantage after 6 minutes. John Leahy was particularly prominent and with Jackson and Fulton also making notable contributions, Killester led 69-53 going into the final quarter and there was to be no way back for Killarney.

Connect 24 Star of the Sea 69(35)   93(54) Waterford Crystal
Gabe Jackson 27 27 Eric Blair
Kenny McFarland 18 26 Stacey Massiah
Gareth Maguire 10 12 Mike Norris
Star of the Sea had one of their worst performances in the past few seasons to gift Waterford Crystal their first win over Star since they joined the Men’s League three years ago. Star never got off the mark in this game, with Kenny McFarland held to just 2 first half points and Scott Summersgill only accounting for 2pts in the entire game. Crystal were in control from the off, with Blair and Massiah on form. Star also fell foul of the calls; they were on 6 fouls as opposed to 2 for Crystal 4 minutes into the last quarter.
Tolka Rovers 83(47)   80(39) Neptune
Paddy Boylan 30 22 Stephen McCarthy
Mick Quill 16 19 Gordon Fitzgerald
Jay Fazandes 15 17 Charron Watson
Tolka Rovers continued their excellent start to the season with another major scalp at the Tolka Rovers complex today. Six of the Tolka players were on double figures as they secured a big win over defending champions Neptune.

Paddy Boylan was again outstanding for the home side, following on his star performance on Friday night against Big Al’s and it was his sharp shooting and Mike and Jim Quills work under the boards that ensured Tolka the lead at the break.
Tolka dominated the first half of the third quarter, pushing ahead to a 13pt lead. But Stephen McCarthy was again the hero for Neptune, as he helped them cut the deficit and the teams were neck and neck again going into the final quarter. The sides traded baskets for much of the final quarter and Neptune took their first lead of the game with 2 ½ minutes to go. Neptune then lost Stephen McCarthy with five fouls, having already lost Nick Chatzinokilis 2 minutes earlier leaving them without their influential captain down the stretch. Tolka took the lead again through Paddy Boylan, leading by 1pt with 17 seconds on the clock. Neptune played the clock down holding possession, but Charron Watson’s shot hit the rim and popped out into the waiting hands of Jay Fazandes. Fuzzy was fouled and coolly made both of his resulting free throws to give Tolka a three-point lead. Charron Watson had time to get a three-point attempt off, but it popped back out to ensure the points for Tolka.

Hibernian UCD Marian 102(56)   88(51) BurgerKing Limerick
Pat Glover 21 29 Lance Barnes
Kevin Ward 20 21 Cleotis Brown
Neville Charles 16 12 Stephen Kelly
The game began with a technical foul called against the Limerick bench – the Limerick team only arriving into the gym at 15.28 - 2 minutes before tipp-off. Pat Glover made 1/ 2 at the line to get Marian off the mark. There was little between the sides in the first quarter, Cleotis Brown shooting well for Limerick, and Pat Glover and Kevin Ward in fine form for Marian, Marian shading the quarter 28-23.

Marian went up by 11pts in the 2nd quarter, with Pat Glover outstanding and Akers and Ward working well together. Limerick’s two Americans combined well to cut it back to a 2pt game, but Neville Charles, back from his 1 game suspension, worked hard under the boards to deny the sharp shooters, and Marian enjoyed a 5pt lead going in at the break.

The two sides traded baskets for most of the third quarter, Marian leading 74-70 at the end of the quarter, and they were never to lose their lead after that. A good team effort saw them control the game in the final quarter, and it was this teamwork that ensured Marian their second consecutive victory of the weekend.
