Rhondda stunned as Tigers raid valleys

In the Women's Division One, there was a major upset, of sorts, Rhondda Rebels coming to grief at the eleventh attempt on Saturday. The Cup holders suffered their first league loss as Thames Valley plundered Wales and left with a 71-77 victory which puts the Bracknell side - coached by Brani Bazany, into top spot.
Despite 27 points from their season’s top scorer, Missy Lender, the ntl National Cup winners could not claw back the four point deficit at the half.

Doncaster Panthers hung on to the pack in with victory over Coventry Quality Cats (65 – 47) and Spelthorne Acers were unsuccessful (63 – 75) as they hosted Ipswich Bobcats.

Plymouth Raiders extended their lead at the head of the NBL Conference to four points on Saturday with a 79-99 win at Coventry Crusaders.

With Worthing inactive, Teesside moved up to third after their 86-106 defeat of Sutton while Solent Stars fell to a dismal 0-10, Mark Scott's men unfortunate to lose 103-109 at home to Manchester.

Once again, Oxford Devils stamped their authority on Division One by beating Liverpool 106 – 87 to leave them firmly at the foot of the table after wins for Birmingham Aces and Cardiff Clippers over Kingston (97 – 95) and Westminster Warriors (74 – 70) respectively.

Ware Rebels and Mansfield Express had great results as they won both games in double header weekend. The Rebels faced Brixton Topcats both home and away, winning 105 – 86 and 86 – 68. Express kept on track for a play off position with 73 – 63 and 73 – 72 victories over Doncaster Panthers. Hull Icebergs failed to close the gap on Ealing Tornados as Milek Jivens led them to a 76 – 68 win with 22 points personal. Derbyshire Arrows went in to their game against Northampton Neptunes hoping their 13th league game would not be unlucky. They continued in current form disposing of the Neptunes, 106 – 45, to remain the only unbeaten team in the National Basketball League.

Plymouth Racers are standing firm at the summit of Women’s Division Two after a 97 – 52 victory at Chelmsford Swifts. UWIC Cardiff travelled to Tyneside to record a 90 – 83 win over Tyne & Wear but with three games in hand on the Racers its far from over. Derby Ladies lead 35 – 21 at the half against London Towers and hung on for victory 64 –58.

Bristol Bombers and Worcester Wolves continue to battle it out at the top of Division Three with both teams winning at home against Northumbria University (81 – 69) and Tamar Valley Cannons (93 – 83) respectively. Elsewhere in the division, a close game between 5th and 6th place saw Birmingham University beat Barking & Dagenham 77 – 75 and Nottingham SNC beat Dudley Bears 76 – 71.
