Rhondda given Belgian tie

Rhondda Rebels have been drawn against Belgian Champions BCSS Namur in the Elimination round of the 2001-02 Ronchetti Cup.

The Valleys outfit will play at home on October 17th and then travel to Belgium for the return leg a week later with the winning team going through to a mini league system that will see the victorious team guarantee
themselves at least another six games against some quality opposition from around Europe.

The teams are no strangers after playing each other twice back last August while the Rebels were in Belgium for preseason. Both times Namur had the upper hand with a 12 and 15 point wins and despite the losses General Manager Andy Tynan is quite optimistic of their chances of going through.

"BCSS are a very good team, and been Champions of Belgium for many years," he said. "Last season they went through to the league stages of the competition,  but we should be positive. We have them at home first and if we can put in a big performance in front of a large crowd who knows what will happen."

Meanwhile the Rebels are closing in to complete the re-signing of English International Shelly Boston.

Australian born Boston, who qualifies as English through her parents, scooped "Most Valuable Player" awards in both Cup Finals last season and formed a formidable partnership with League player of the year Missy Lender.

Despite some offers else where in Europe Boston has indicated she wishes to return to Wales for a second spell.
