Scottish Rocks will
face Brighton Bears in a meeting of the league's two sides left standing
in the BBL Championship play-off final after Kevin Wall's side emerged
victorious 76-74 in a dramatic semi-final with Sheffield Sharks.
Ted Berry was the
hero, scoring with 1.2 seconds left to complete the Scots' stunning rally
from 12 points down.
A tight opening quarter
saw the Sharks edge the Rocks 16-10 early on off the back of a 12-2 run
midway through the first quarter and they ultimately led 27-20 at the end
of the period.
The league champions
came out strong in the second quarter scoring nine of the opening 13 points
to lead 36-24, but the Rocks hit back to cut the deficit to nine points
at 40-31 going into the second half.
The Braehead outfit
came out in the second half hitting ten of the opening fourteen points
in the third quarter, but Sheffield kept themselves in front leading by
four points at 59-55 going into the final stanza.
The Rocks opened
the final period with a 7-1 run to take a one point lead at 62-61. Both
sides traded baskets, and with 1:34 remaining, Berry hit a three-pointer
to tie the game at 74-74. Both sides had chances to win the game,
before Berry's final five points sealed the upset.
The Braehead outfit
now take on Brighton in the final and are aiming to continue their run
of upsets in the decider.
“They’re a great
team and well coached. But we played them well twice this season and beat
them once so anything is possible,” Wall said.
Shawn Myers led all
scorers with 27 points and13 rebounds for the victors, while Lynard Stewart
led the Sharks scoring with 20.
