Milton Keynes Lions
kept their hopes of progressing to the semi-finals of the BBL Trophy alive
on Sunday afternoon, thanks to a 79-71 home success over DG Essex Leopards
Kool Kats.
The hosts bagged
12 of the opening 15 points and led 21-9 after the first quarter, but a
12-2 Leopards tear levelled the score at 35-35 at half-time.
Two three pointers
each from Rod Brown and Trevor Diggs saw Leopards edge the third quarter
and they extended their advantage to 59-54 early in the fourth.
Nigel Lloyd's men
responded with an 11-2 tear, before Leopards tied the game at 71-71.
However, Freddie
Cole came to the rescue, bagging six of the last eight points of the game
to give Lions the spoils.
Michael New led Lions'
scoring with 27 points, but Essex's Rod Brown topped that with 28.

Chester Jets' chances
of qualifying for the semi-finals of the BBL Trophy were boosted by a 121-97
success at home to Leicester Riders on Sunday night.
Leicester's only
lead of the game came with the score at 3-2, following a Malcolm Leak three
pointer, but Jets responded with a 10-3 tear to lead 12-6 and didn't look
back.
The closest that
Riders got was two points at 13-11, but Jets hit back quickly with a 13-2
burst and led 33-18 at the end of the first quarter.
An early 9-4 run
and back-to-back threes from Kenya Capers saw the visitors narrow the gap
to seven points at 44-37, but Chester went in at half-time leading by 14
points at 62-48.
That lead was up
to 17 points at 91-74 by the end of the third, as Chester eased to the
victory.
Kenny Gregory fired
a game-high 36 points for the victorious Jets.

Newcastle Eagles
boosted their bid to qualify for the semi-finals of the BBL Trophy with
a 97-89 victory over near neighbours Teesside Mohawks on Sunday afternoon,
setting up a final game decider with the Scottish Rocks seven days hence.
The BBL side dominated
their NBL Conference opponents for much of the game, establishing a 12-point
first quarter lead and extending it to 19 points at half-time at 56-37.
In what was their
final game in the BBL Trophy, Teesside battled hard, reducing the arrears
to 12 points by the end of the third quarter and even getting as close
as three points on several occasions in the fourth to threaten an upser.
However, it was not
enough, as Eagles secured their second win of the season over the Mohawks.
Andrew Mavis led
Eagles' scoring with 18 points, while EJ Harrison added 29 for Teesside.
