Newcastle Eagles
advanced into the last four of the BBL Trophy on Sunday after a 98-91 defeat
of the Scottish Rocks at the Telewest Arena.
The Scots travelled
minus point guard Ryan Huntley, who suffered a scratched eye in a collision
with Chester forward John McCord during the team's BBL Championship encounter
on Saturday at Braehead.
Needing a ten point
win to pip their hosts to a semi-final berth, the visitors recovered from
a poor start to level at 48-48 at half-time but were left short-handed
following the ejection of centre Billy Singleton.
In the fourth quarter,
the Eagles reeled off seven unanswered points but saw their guests rally
to edge ahead 83-82.
However Stephan Sheckles,
the Scots' leading scorer with 24 points, saw his three point attempt hit
the rim and with it, the Rocks chances disappeared as Newcastle eventually
fired off the final five points to advance.
Stephan Sheckles
led the Rocks scorers with 24 while Jeremy Hyatt hit a game-high 28 for
the Eagles.
