Brighton Bears climbed
to second in the BBL Championship table after defeating the Birmingham
Bullets 108-95 on Sunday – their second road victory in as many days. After
Bullets had started the second stanza well and opened up a 43-35 advantage
the Bears rattled off the final 11 points of the first half to move in
front. A 13-4 third quarter Bears burst put daylight between the two teams
at 63-54 and despite all of the efforts of the Bullets they could find
no way of closing the gap.

Newcastle Eagles recorded their first victory of the Championship season
with a 101-90 success over the TCS Chester Jets on Sunday evening. The
Jets, missing Calvin Davis with a knee injury, held the Eagles level at
46-46 with 97 seconds remaining of the first half before
conceding 12 unanswered
points up until the half time interval – Eagles Charles Smith bagging two
three pointers in
thet burst. After Jets had trimmed the lead to just four at the third quarter
break the Eagles
regained their control with a 15-5 start to the final stanza, an immediate
8-0
reply for the Jets
threatened a comeback but they could get no closer.

the Lions slowly chipped away at their lead culminating with a late final
quarter rally which
moved them to within four at 62-66 with three minutes remaining. After

experience to take his side to safety, bagging his teams final 7 points
to make

their 100% start to the season securing a 103-71 victory north of the
border over the
Scottish Phoenix Honda Record Rocks. After a close first half the Towers
led by
former Rock Jerry
Williams, who finished with a game high 28 points, broke the game open
with a 14-3
third quarter burst
which gave the visitors a double digit advantage from which the Rocks could
not
recover. Earlier
the Rocks had fought back after the Towers had rattled off 13 points without
reply
either side of the
first quarter break to take a 29-17 lead.
