England
hit by Italian job
England senior men were up against it when
they faced the Italian team in the opening European Championship semi final
round game. And unfortunately for Laszlo Nemeth's men, they were thrashed,
losing 99-63 in Roseto degli Abruzzi.
Although Andy Betts (17 pts), Steve
Hansell (12 pts) and Andy Gardiner (11 points) posted good performances
the Italians were determined to make up for the poor performance in the
European Championships in the summer and after taking a 43-27 lead at half-time,
they raced clear.
Italy were led by Gianluca Basile, who
scored 24 points including two six-pointers in the opening minutes, and
London-born point guard Carlton Myers, who contributed 22 points.
