I am a freelance journalist and writer - specialising principally on sport. Normally each Saturday afternoon, you'll find me talking or writing about football, in particular in the twists and turns in Scottish 'fitba'. And in the summer, I head for the green, leafy but often rain-sodden pastures where I cover cricket in print and on radio in my role as cricket correspondent for Scotland on Sunday and the Sunday Mail.
Basketball is a speciality - I formerly edited and published Britball.com, which provided the most comprehensive coverage of the sport in the UK and Ireland - as well as serving as basketball correspondent for a number of British newspapers. I also contribute to nba.com, with my regular blog.
Having previously worked within the NFL in a public relations role, I am also a keen observer and commentator on American football - and have reported from both Super Bowls and World Bowls. In the past, I trekked across Europe chronicling the ups and (first) downs of the much-lamented but now defunct Scottish Claymores.
Additionally, I frequently cover a range of other sports including athletics, triathlon and baseball, making regular Stateside trips to get the inside track on the wild and often weird world of American sports. My Only in America column ran for several years, chronicling the madness behind the games.
More generally, I also undertake specific copy-writing commissions on request. These have included travel and entertainment publications, website creation, and analytical consultancy on overseas markets.
Outside of sport, I've contributed to publications on export and international trade and am a contributing author of both "Exporting to Scandinavia" and "Exporting to Ireland", published by Kogan Page in 1998. I also write on the business of sport and on the media.
My work regularly features in several print media outlets including: Click here for samples of my work.
