Newcastle spring a Leak

Newcastle Eagles have confirmed the addition of Malcolm Leak to their roster for the forthcoming  season.

Leak, 30, has spent most of the last two seasons at Leicester Riders, whom he helped to the NTL
National Cup and BBL Championship titles last season. The 6'8" forward also won a Championship in his first year in the BBL at London Towers.

"We are very please to announce this signing," said Coach Tony Garbelotto. "I think Malcolm will
be a major asset to the club. After watching him closely last season, I was impressed with his all round game and fighting spirit."

Globetrotting Leak has played all over the world including in Mexico, Brazil, Paraguay, Chile, Taiwan, Indonesia, Australia, Venezuela and Cyprus, where he was the Cypriot League MVP in 1997.

Leak joined the Towers in 1997, before moving Leicester in December 1999 and during his BBL career he has averaged over 18 points per game.

"Malcolm's statistics were very impressive and are the sort of figures we would like to see him
reproduce in his new role at the Eagles," continued Garbelotto.

After returning from a brief stint in Cyprus early last season, Leak averaged 18.9 points and 9.4 rebounds per game whilst hitting over 51% of his shots, including 40% from the three-point line and made his third appearance in the All Star Game.

Leak joins guard TJ Walker and centre Ian Whyte on Newcastle's roster with further additions expected shortly.
