Scots squad announced

basketballscotland has announced the Scotland Senior Men's squad to prepare for the 2002 European Promotion Cup to be held in Malta from 11-15 June.

Head Coach Toni Szifris, has brought together a mix of youth and experience in forming his squad. Only 12 players will be selected to travel to the tournament and Szifris has left the door open for players who are currently playing outside of Scotland within European competitions or at collegiate
level in the United States - a list headed by Illinois senior Robert Archibald. Preparation begins at the end of January with the final team being named early March.

The team will face tough opposition in the group stages of the European Promotions Cup competition. Scotland has been drawn against hosts Malta, Albania, and San Marino who narrowly defeated the Scots in their last contest, and must finish in the top two of their group to qualify for the semi final round. The Scots are looking to improve on their Bronze medal at the 2000 European Promotion Cup, Andorra.

"With basketball now being included in the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games, basketballscotland has gone for a much younger squad", said SBA chief executive Rodger Thompson. "Scotland's sole focus is to qualify for Melbourne, which would significantly raise the profile of the game in Scotland".
