England Men: Gardiner leads fightback to victory
Following their opening loss to Angola last night, England's men bounced back in style this afternoon in the RTP International Tournament in Portugal by beating Egypt 88-70. The result, combined with hosts Portugal's defeat of Angola by 91-77 puts all four teams level going into Sunday's final round of games..
England trailed 38-41 at the half but produced an incredible second half
display to open up a 20 point lead, 84-64, before running out 18 point victors.England Coach Laszlo Nemeth was delighted with the victory and said: This
was one of the best England performances I have witnessed. The whole team
were magnificent, but it is important we build on this result and not treat
it as a one-off thing.Andy Gardiner top scored for England with 21 points, Silus Cheung netted 15
and Newcastle Eagles Ian Whyte bagged 14 points and 8 rebounds.In the final matches on Sunday, England play Portugal and Egypt meet Angola,
should England and Egypt win their games, then England will finish the
tournament in first place.
