England end warm-ups with thriller win

Following their terrific 88-70 defeat of Egypt on Saturday, England's men completed their pre-European qualifying warm ups with a narrow 86-84 defeat of hosts Portugal at the RTP International Tournament by beating hosts Portugal 86-84.

However, Angola's  83-59 victory over Egypt left the English second overall in the final standings.

Nonetheless, England coach Laszlo Nemeth was pleased with the progress his depleted squad have made.

"It was important that we followed up last night's victory with another good display.  We certainly did that.  Winning away in Europe is always a great achievement and I am proud of the players."

England trailed 46-35 at the change of ends but produced another fighting second half display to grab a thrilling two point win as Andy Gardiner top scored for England once again on 20 points.

Silas Cheung also netted 20 and Newcastle Eagles Ian Whyte bagged 17 points.
